Saturday night after we closed Illusions, Spencer went upstairs to get changed and Ken was finishing cleaning up. I was left alone with Julie and we were chatting about various things. The last time we talked I promised I'd entertain her and so I did. Oh I did! I truly read her mind.
I simply had her select any random playing card from a deck without me seeing it -- and I had her hold onto it so I couldn't ever. I put the deck on the bar away from us. I had her visualize the card in her mind, then juxtapose the image of the number/letter of the value with the icon of the suit, in the correct color in her imagination. I sensed a darkness and correctly ascertained that she was thinking of a black card. [Ooh, 50-50 shot right? Read on!]
Then in her mind only I had her repeat the name of the card, over & over, over & over. Then saying the name in her mind louder & louder until I was able to start saying it out loud in the same rhythm -- six of clubs, six of clubs, six of clubs...!
She was, of course, amazed that I was able to read her mind, to both of our delight.
We were then doubly-amazed when she showed me the card and it was not the six of clubs but the six of spades.
Even though she had visualized the six of spades, she misnamed it in her head and was saying to herself "six of clubs, six of clubs, six of clubs..."
So I didn't actually know what card was in her hand, I knew what she was thinking in her mind!
=)
So I'm a little left of center / I'm a little out of tune. / Some say I'm paranormal / So I just bend their spoon. / Who wants to be ordinary / In a crazy, mixed-up world? / I don't care what they're sayin'... [Michelle Branch, You Get Me]
